Stop Trump’s Police-State Terror!

RESISTANCE IS RISING on multiple fronts against the Trump-MAGA regime’s open drive toward a police state. These are not isolated attacks – they’re a deadly threat to all of us.
The infamous kidnapping of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, transported to the CECOT penal torture center in El Salvador, shows that Trump‘s gang has no intention of obeying legal processes or court orders. The purpose is to create an atmosphere of fear everywhere in society.
The reign of terror against immigrant communities is part of a massive assault. Elon Musk’s DOGE gangsters are seizing the private identity, tax and social security records of citizens too. Federal workers are being fired by the thousands, gutting the vital services they provide. Tens of billions of dollars in Medicaid funds will disappear while billionaires get tax cuts.
Trump and his Attorney General Bondi make no secret of their interest in seizing and removing U.S. citizens to foreign prisons. All by itself, this should be cause for their immediate removal from office – and the silence of the Trump Republican Party cult shows how deep the rot has already gone in what remains of constitutional rights.
In their spare time, Trump and his advisors are also trying to subjugate Canada, Mexico and Europe, and launching full-scale trade war against China, with tariffs that will crater the U.S. and maybe the world economy. Good job for the first 100 days!
The rise of popular resistance was shown by the million-plus turnout at the April 5 and 19th Hands Off! demonstrations in cities and towns large and small, red states, blue states and purple. And as the resistance grows, it needs to become a powerful and independent political movement for the rights of every target of Trump’s regime – including labor, Black and Latino communities women, Queer and Trans people – without exception.
Imperialism Kills Us All
We also need to understand that the five-alarm civil and human rights emergency in the United States is deeply connected to crises in the global U.S. empire. What happens at home is very much part of imperial “foreign policy objectives.” The destruction of Palestine is a leading example, although not the only one.
High-profile detentions and deportation threats of pro-Palestinian activists sets the tone. Secretary of State Marco Rubio openly boasts of cancelling a thousand international student visas. This is not separate from the government’s demand that every college in the United States become Trump University, and that K-12 schools be required to promote white-supremacist myth in the guise of “patriotism.”
Some of the country’s most powerful law firms have buckled under to Trump’s extortion demands that they serve his agenda. Leading Democratic politicians are almost entirely silent about the U.S.-Israeli genocide in Palestine, which openly threatens the starvation and forced depopulation of Gaza.
The drive to criminalize protest actions against the genocide, especially on college campuses, is occurring with the collusion of the pro-Israeli Zionist and Christian-nationalist far right in identifying student and faculty activists for government targeting, expulsion and/or deportation.
The attack on Palestine solidarity activism is a leading wedge of the Trump administration’s intention to destroy U.S. universities as institutions of scientific, cultural and critical thought.
It is abetted by the spectacular cowardice of college administrations at Columbia, the University of Michigan and others in capitulating to these attacks on the bogus pretense of combating “campus antisemitism.” It’s a vicious campaign that began under Biden and has escalated without restraint under Trump.
The fightback is up to the grassroots, and it begins with the defense of all those in the crosshairs of Trump’s repressive rampage.
Of course, any supporter of basic First Amendment rights should be demanding the immediate release of Mahmoud Khalil, Mohsen Mahdawi, Georgetown professor Badar Khan Suri, Tufts graduate student Rumeysa Ozturk, and all others under detention or threat.
At the same time, agitation and activism for Palestinian freedom and against the genocide will and must continue, inspired by these activists’ example and courage.
As we defend our basic democratic rights under existential threat in the United States, we must insist that the fate of the Palestinian people as a mass human sacrifice on the altar of political cynicism, imperialism and settler colonialism is no isolated matter. It is inextricably tied to the struggles in our own society and the future of us all. To meet this critical moment requires determined, democratic and most important, united, resistance.

SOLIDARITY is an ecosocialist, feminist and anti-racist organization. We stand for a new society without exploiters or exploited, to be won through the democratic power of the working class and the liberation of oppressed peoples.
We uphold struggles against imperialism without exception, and freedom and national self-determination whether it’s for Palestine, Puerto Rico or Ukraine.
We help build movements for a revived labor movement with member-controlled, militant democratic unions. We publish a bimonthly magazine Against the Current.
