RESISTANCE ARISING

Stop Trump’s Police-State Terror!

RESISTANCE IS RISING on multiple fronts against the Trump-MAGA regime’s open drive toward a police state. These are not isolated attacks – they’re a deadly threat to all of us.

The infamous kidnapping of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, transported to the CECOT penal torture center in El Salvador, shows that Trump‘s gang has no intention of obeying legal processes or court orders. The purpose is to create an atmosphere of fear everywhere in society.

The reign of terror against immigrant communities is part of a massive assault. Elon Musk’s DOGE gangsters are seizing the private identity, tax and social security records of citizens too. Federal workers are being fired by the thousands, gutting the vital services they provide. Tens of billions of dollars in Medicaid funds will disappear while billionaires get tax cuts.

Trump and his Attorney General Bondi make no secret of their interest in seizing and removing U.S. citizens to foreign prisons. All by itself, this should be cause for their immediate removal from office – and the silence of the Trump Republican Party cult shows how deep the rot has already gone in what remains of constitutional rights.

In their spare time, Trump and his advisors are also trying to subjugate Canada, Mexico and Europe, and launching full-scale trade war against China, with tariffs that will crater the U.S. and maybe the world economy. Good job for the first 100 days!

The rise of popular resistance was shown by the million-plus turnout at the April 5 and 19th Hands Off! demonstrations in cities and towns large and small, red states, blue states and purple. And as the resistance grows, it needs to become a powerful and independent political movement for the rights of every target of Trump’s regime – including labor, Black and Latino communities women, Queer and Trans people – without exception.

Imperialism Kills Us All

We also need to understand that the five-alarm civil and human rights emergency in the United States is deeply connected to crises in the global U.S. empire. What happens at home is very much part of imperial “foreign policy objectives.” The destruction of Palestine is a leading example, although not the only one…

May Day Strong

Posted May 7, 2025

MAY DAY 2025, hundreds of thousands of people marched, rallied, picketed or carried out civil disobedience in over 1,000 towns and cities across 50 states. Since May 1, 1886, when workers in industrial cities around the country demanded implementation of an eight-hour workday, the day has been a platform for workers’ demands and protests.

The focus this year opposed the range of actions the Trump team has launched in its first 100 days. Trump and his team have fired thousands of government workers,…

Statement on Civilian Killings in Pahalgam

Radical Socialist

Posted May 2, 2025

At least 26 civilians, mostly tourists, have been brutally and callously killed by militants in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025. Radical Socialist mourns the death of every single civilian, and condemns this terrorist act perpetrated by The Resistance Front that has claimed responsibility for it. It is a senseless attack which is morally unjustifiable and is completely counterproductive politically because it can further stoke and strengthen existing currents of Islamophobia in Indian society and in state…

For a May Day of anti-fascist and anti-imperialist resistance

Executive Bureau, Fourth International

Posted May 1, 2025

On 5 April in the United States, 1,300 demonstrations involving 500,000 people expressed broad anger against Trump and his far-right government. These mobilizations, significant but still in their early stages, show that it is possible to respond to the violent attacks carried out around the world against the interests of workers, migrants, victims of racial oppression, women, and the LGBTI community.

In Serbia, Greece, South Korea, Turkey, Britain, Germany, Argentina and India, significant sectors…

“Free the Judge Now!” Milwaukee Mobilizes to Defend Judge and Immigrants

Mike McCallister

Posted April 29, 2025

As word spreads of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s arrest of Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan, rapid organization of three demonstrations over the weekend put Trump’s thugs on notice that this prosecution will not stand.

On the morning of April 25, FBI agents arrested Dugan in her office at the Milwaukee County Courthouse on federal charges of obstructing a US agency and concealing an individual to prevent an arrest.

Shortly thereafter, FBI Director Kash Patel posted on Twitter/X…

Debased Language, Degraded Politics: Searching for Conservatism, Finding It Nowhere

Harvey J. Graff

“The problem of the 21st century is not only with conservatism. Over recent decades and especially in recent years, there is rampant confusion of all political spheres: left, center and right. But widespread loss of basic conservatism stands out. It underwrites the white-supremacist and Christian nationalist transformation of the Republican party since the 1960s and most actively since the 1980s.”

The Other Catastrophe: Genocide and Famine in Sudan

Gilbert Achcar

Posted April 25, 2025

Two years have passed since the war broke out in Sudan between the two sides of the military regime that the country inherited from the infamous Omar al-Bashir. While the situation in Sudan does not get even a tenth of the global media attention that the ongoing Zionist genocidal war in Gaza receives, the scale of the human catastrophe there is equally horrific. The death toll from the military-on-military war is estimated at more than 150,000, while the number of displaced people stands at approximately…

The Global Fascist Project: Crisis, Control, and the Struggle from Below

William I. Robinson

Posted April 25, 2025

The starting point for any analysis of the shocking conjuncture of events now rocking the world — trade wars, genocide, fascism — is the unprecedented crisis of global capitalism. There are four interwoven dimensions: 1) economic involving overaccumulation and chronic stagnation; 2) social reproduction and widespread social disintegration; 3) a crisis of state legitimacy and capitalist hegemony as the post-WWII international order cracks up; 4) an ecological crisis that threatens to exhaust…

A Setback for Auto Workers’ Solidarity

Dianne Feeley

Posted April 10, 2025

THE UAW STATEMENT “In a Victory for Autoworkers, Auto Tariffs Mark the Beginning of the End of NAFTA and the ‘Free Trade’ Disaster” posted on the UAW website, presents a faulty understanding of the impact NAFTA had on the restructuring of the auto industry. It then outlines a disastrous strategy for auto workers, similar to a previous UAW administration’s call on members to save their jobs by voting for two-tier contracts.

In the 1990s corporate restructuring meant automation,…

Lessons of Abductions and Terror

The Editors

Posted April 9, 2025

THE ABDUCTION OF Mahmoud Khalil — the Palestinian graduate student and green card holder seized March 8 at his Columbia University residence — is now multiplied by other high-profile detentions and deportation threats, and dozens or even hundreds of unpublicized cases. Secretary of State Marco Rubio openly boasts as much.

These arrests and disappearances highlight a reign of terror confronting student visa and even green card holders. They pull together multiple interwoven aspects of the…

No Hope for Transitional Justice If Sectarianism Is the Doctrine of the New Syrian State

Joseph Daher

Posted April 9, 2025

A month after sectarian violence erupted on Syria’s coast, the Syrian state has yet to recognise the importance of transitional justice, says Joseph Daher.

The euphoria that followed the fall of Assad’s regime in December 2024 has largely dissipated after the large-scale massacres of Alawite civilians in coastal areas, carried out in early March 2025 by armed forces within the newly formed Syrian army….

Pamphlets from Solidarity

THE “SOCIALISM-FROM- BELOW” tradition views the working class as the central agent of overthrowing a system based on the market and the exploitation, alienation and unequal society it perpetuates.
Steve Downs’ writings, first in Hell on Wheels (2008) and in Socialist Strategies in Unions, a working paper (2022), outline how a variety of socialists active in the NYC transit system over two decades worked to build a rank-and-file caucus with a class struggle perspective.
Unable to resolve how to be accountable once members won office, their project ultimately failed. The pamphlet and working paper offer rich lessons for today’s socialists. You can read and download the working paper, Socialist Strategies in Unions, here.
Socialism, What It Is, Why We Need It outline capitalism‘s exploitation of both workers and the environment and sketches an alternative. You can order copies of Hell on Wheels, the working paper Socialist Strategies in Unions, and Socialism, What It is, Why We Need It here.
