Solidarity Cadre School 2016

Home | Readings | Schedule

The Solidarity cadre school is a weekend of collective education and discussion for younger and newer members of Solidarity and invited guests.

The goal of the weekend is for attendees to collectively develop our ability to think analytically and strategically about the world we live in, about our work in social movements, and about struggling against capitalism as such and building anti-capitalist organization. We also hope it will be a great opportunity for organizers to meet and build relationships with other leftists around the country, and serve as a small step in developing further coordination and organization on the left.

The school will have essentially a three part structure:

  1. Some bigger picture material covering important concepts in socialist politics, historical materialism, and analysis of capitalism, as well as the nature and history of neoliberalism.

  2. A series of sessions covering important areas of political analysis and movement work, with a focus on the current state of social movements, including:

    • Labor organizing, with a focus on public education and anti-austerity

    • National liberation movements and white supremacy

    • Queer liberation and activism

    • Gendered violence

  3. An extended discussion of the anti-capitalist left as such, including its history, present state, and possible future.

The school will start at 4:00 in the afternoon on Friday, March 18, and end early in the evening on Sunday, March 20. A detailed schedule for the weekend is available here. It will take place at the Highlander Center in east TN. Meals are served on site, and housing is on site as well. Childcare will be available if requested in advance.

A list of suggested readings, organized by session, is available here. We strongly encourage anyone attending to read through these, but don’t worry, there won’t be a test, and we understand that not everyone has the time to do significant reading in advance.

Register here. If you have any questions, or if you’d like to volunteer to help facilitate discussions or develop and present material, please contact Solidarity staff at info@solidarity-us.org.
