Solidarity National Committee

The National Committee of Solidarity expresses our outrage at the attack on the home of Carolina Iara, a member of PSOL, a black transactivist and recently elected co-councillor in the Municipal Council of Sao Paolo, Brazil. In the early hours of Wednesday, January 27, shots were fired at her home at the same time that a white car with darkened windows was parked outside. This attack, potentially deadly and clearly aimed at intimidating her, fits the pattern of assaults on social activists and particularly on those fighting for trans rights. It occurs in the context of violence openly encouraged by the Bolsonaro government. We join with Resistencia/PSOL in demanding a thorough and independent investigation into the attack on Carolina Iara and all other such incidents.
