On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, a 37-year-old poet, mother, and human rights defender was gunned down by ICE agents as she monitored federal police ICE activity. Her name was Renee Nicole Good.
Thousands joined a protest that same night at the site of the federal police shooting. Pepper spray was deployed, and reports of injuries of at least one labor movement activist have been substantiated.
Protests continued the following morning at ICE HQ in St Paul by the airport, and again in Minneapolis on January 10.
2000 ICE officers have deployed to Minneapolis, twice the size of the Minneapolis and Saint Paul police forces. They have been sent here to the Twin Cities as an occupying force ostensibly to detain and deport undocumented immigrants.
Following reports of Somali American day care fraud and violent language by Donald Trump, ICE deployed to Minneapolis. A mass rally and demonstration held on Saturday, December 20, attracted thousands, and a citywide network of hundreds, if not thousands, of volunteers has deployed to monitor and report federal activity as part of Monarca and other networks.
Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz has decided not to run again, saying he needs to focus on the state’s Trump-caused crises. In the spring, the night before the “No Kings” rally, an assassin tried to kill several members of the Democratic Party’s state House and Senate leadership, ultimately murdering House Dem leader Melissa Hortman and wounding House Dem John Hoffmann. In response to Trumped-up allegations of daycare fraud, the federal government has frozen funds for childcare in several states.
ICE has invaded hospitals such as Hennepin County Medical Center, where a protest was held several days ago

Following ICE invading a school near the site of the murder, Minneapolis schools are canceled for the remainder of the week.
Not only is ICE here to terrorize communities, round up the undocumented, and ship them to detention facilities for eventual deportation, but the federal police are an occupying force, with Trump weaponizing law enforcement to instill fear, attack local government institutions, and flip the swing state of Minnesota Republican.
In response, the visionary leadership of the Minnesota labor movement and independent political organizations such as Democratic Socialists of America, allied with human rights supporters, progressives, and all civil society must unite and call on the nation to speak out against these callous criminal acts against US citizens and our undocumented neighbors.
